Well I have to say excellent documentary, overall but some clarification is needed I dont have issue with these young people from other walks of life being influenced by Bruce Lee. But to mention Bruce Lees name in the same scope as Jay Zee and who ever else is going a bit far (never heard of them). Dont get me going about that guy, as far as Im concerned there is no comparison PERIOD. Carlos Santana would have been a better choice, as he has been (to my surprise) influenced by Bruce Lee;8 AWESOME and makes sense as Carlos is a very spiritual man and also the same generation as Bruce. Buckethead the heavy metal guitar maestro , is a nunchuka master and does excellent heavy homage to the Enter the dragon theme in concerts, hip hop and robot dances better than most rappers or dancers, what more could you ask for;0 I am older so I need to adapt my perceptions (like water right), all these areas that these young people express themselves are all valid. From skateboarding to dancing all very cool. The ladies perceptions were also interesting, I really dig the comments by Gina Carano and Teri Tom. I think Shannon is correct when she states there is a difference between MMA and Bruces Jeet Kune Do. First of all Bruce Lee was much faster times 100, that includes many of his 1st,2nd and 3rd generation students and secondly he was WAY WAY better looking. (Gosh are they all bald or balding with five oclock shadow or what?) Bob Walls comment is fascinating also about Jene La Bell being the real father of Mixed martial arts, because correctly stated that Jeet Kune Do had not been formulated until after the Wong Jack Man incident in about 64. I also would weigh in the influence of Dan Innosanto, who has had a hugely ecclectic take and also a different path from all the other first generation JKD instructors, from Ted Wong, Richard Bustillo,Taky Kimura to Jerry Poteet who teach quite closely to the original source material of Bruce. Innosanto also introduced Philipino concepts of combat also which has created another creature altogether however it is still JKD. The first documentary that I know of, to mention the Manson murders and the connection to Bruce Lee, through the hair dresser Jay Sebring and Sharon Tate. That part to me was excellent, perhaps a portentous aspect in the history of the latter part of Bruces life. Lastly another good comment which, absolutely hit the mark was the influence of the Gracies Jujitsu. How in the intervening years Bruces influence waned due to all the grappling, well apparently this has changed. Where they sing his praises whereas disdain for Bruce, in my opinion may have come from pro-grapplers. I also think MMA is probably a little misguided in its pronouncements about Bruce. It is a mixture of individuals that created MMA, not to be mistaken with JKD which has at its base in Wing Chun Kung Fu, with Western boxing and Fencing. Which brings me to the last point where were the JKD students, and martial artists they are the real practioners of Bruces philosophy? The pro MMA stance adopted shows the bias and perhaps, audience and creators of this documentary.

One sided opinion of the man. You have fighters and athletes and even actors like he who played Al Bundy. What these people have in common is more stupidity than reason. The actor who plays Al Bundy is known to be an idiot on and off screen. Also, since when is fathering children an accomplishment? Al Bundys actors words, not mine. As for the rest, well, theyve all made their fortunes on physical activities sometimes they involve fighting, sometimes just athletics as in the case of Bryant, and sometimes just acting like in the case of Mickey Rourke. My point is... Jeet Kun Do is the expressing of oneself. The one-sidedness of the documentary comes from a bunch of people who only understand Bruces philosophy from a physical point of view. Bruce certainly expressed himself through martial arts; he was practically the discipline in his time. However, he also had an explosive personality, and it helped not with the art but with expressing himself, as he considered it the most important thing in anybodys life, especially his. Expressing oneself inevitably leads to war; but war is not always physical and kick-ass and all these things these poor souls commenting on the documentary express. Poor people who cant see life through no other means than violence. I truly say with no pun intended they just dont have the mental capacity to do so, so they go through life punching and kicking and doing things common to unintelligent animals and people of average to below-average IQs. Im sorry, but thats my take.

your disappointment is misplaced. this is a documentary about elevating the martial arts in film and his affect on the entertainment business. the documentary is not called the philosophy of jeet kune do. if it were they would have mentioned it more than twice. your take is incredibly dismissive and naive. fathering children is one of the most difficult and trying challenges for any man that even people with below average intelligence are able to grasp. its very hypocritical to lecture others about mental capacity when you yourself come off so childish. you, like many others, wouldnt give a damn about bruce lee if he wasnt a fighter and a movie star so stop criticizing people who are similar to him in every way. they never could have gotten to that level of success without bringing their physical AND mental a-game.

superficial act vs philosophical view here finding a simple relation of martial arts to Hollywood is superficial and doesnt need any kind of thinking to do that, it pretty obvious. But to see how the martial arts(fight) combines with philosophical(wisdom) to give a inner view of how aggression is controlled by keeping in touch with wisdom. Also "when is fathering children an accomplishment?" can be interpreted in different ways 1) It does not need an intelligent being to be involved in an act of progeny. It can be any living form animals/plants.It is truly an act of responsibility of to bring up a child. provide food, shelter and clothing(in case of human). 2) At the same time when viewed from another angle. It is nothing of an accomplishment to progeny which even other life forms do, a natural process(reproduce, duh). It is a process which is there as a form of perpetuation of species. It also is bringing out the animalistic nature of the so called humans (the most intelligent species) acting as a low life. One can see that the rise in divorce, single parent trend, consuming the non-renewable resource with disdain etc doesnt make us any different from the animal/plant species. so in both ways it feels right but its up to the individual to decide what kind of view one subscribes to.

What a joke. Insulting to the image of Bruce Lee. I have seen all this Bruce dialogue and footage in prior documentaries. This documentary was made for the soul benefit of his estate, not the honor of his history. It is different in that they have cheesy pop icons and compare the legend to Kobe Bryant and say that Wing Chun would not be what it is without Bruce. Think "E news now: Bruce Lee."
